Conversation with Kenya Hara

Meeting the renowned designer Kenya Hara was a true privilege. Kenya Hara is a Japanese graphic designer, curator, and writer. Mostly known for creating Muji. I introduced myself with a simple, "Hello, my name is Ji, and I am a product designer." However, at that very moment, he halted me in my tracks and said, "Please, don't limit yourself by saying you're just a product designer. You are a designer, capable of creating anything and everything." His direct and powerful words left a profound impact on me, motivating me to aspire to more than just the title of a product designer. This pivotal encounter inspired me to expand my horizons, leading me to explore diverse avenues and enroll in a variety of courses at Art Center during that period.

Tokyo International Basketball Community with +450 members.
The difficulty of finding a basketball community where they could connect and play the sport they loved. The city had courts, but most catered to local players with limited opportunities for English-speaking enthusiasts. What started as a simple desire to shoot hoops with like-minded individuals soon evolved into something greater. The basketball court became a meeting point where players from diverse backgrounds shared not only their passion for the game but also their experiences of living, working, and navigating a foreign land.

Pointset

Industrial Design · Engineering Provisional Patent
Spring 2016 · 3 months

Provisional patented technology revolutionizes how tripods are used, allowing users to set up and self-level their tripod on any surface in less than four seconds.
Traditional tripods can be a real hassle, often requiring both hands and more than ten seconds to set up properly. This inconvenience can lead to missed opportunities for photographers. Understanding the crucial factors of tripod usage—weight, durability, and setup speed—PointSet places special emphasis on rapid setup to ensure you never miss that critical moment.
PointSet sets a new standard for tripod setup speed, making it the fastest tripod ever created. I prioritized the needs of photographers who understand the value of capturing every moment without delay. Embrace the future of tripod technology and elevate your photography experience with PointSet. Never miss a shot again!

A Rebranding Peet’s Coffee & Tea with Packaging
Seizing the opportunity to create a positive change, envision Peet's Urban Coffee as a beacon of sustainability and eco-consciousness. The project's core mission was to bridge the gap between urban living and nature, fostering a greener and healthier community.
To uphold the ethos of sustainability, I introduced a groundbreaking solution - reusable packaging that doubled as mini planters. The coffee packages empowered customers to create their own little green sanctuaries, no matter how limited their living spaces. Embracing this idea, customers could cultivate herbs and small plants, reinforcing their bond with nature amidst the bustling cityscape.
